AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G (Renoir) Processor Review

Today, we’ll be taking an exclusive look at the super rare and highly sought-after AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G (Renoir) processor. According to AMD, the Ryzen PRO series of CPUs provide PRO technologies which includes layers of security features, seamless manageability, and reliable longevity.

This particular chip is based on AMD’s Renoir core (Zen 2), and  features 8-cores/16-threads and operates on a base frequency of 3.6 GHz with a max boost speed of 4.4 GHz. It comes with 4MB of L2 cache and a total 8MB of L3 cache. It also comes with onboard Radeon graphics with 8 GPU cores running at 2100 MHz.

We wanted to see if we can build an AMD 8-core/16-thread Ryzen based system for under USD $700 … and guess what, we did it and managed buy the following components …

Motherboard Gigabyte B550M DS3H $95
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G $250-350
Cooling Bundled AMD CPU cooler $0
Ram Thermaltake Tough Ram DDR4-3200 16GB (2x8GB) $89
HDD Gigabyte Aorus RGB 512GB PCIE M.2 SSD $106
PSU Thermaltake Smart 80+ Plus 850W $67
Chassis In-win 301 Chassis $69
VGA card Onboard Radeon Graphics $0

TOTAL

 ~ $676-776

The AMD Ryzen 7 PRO series of processors are only available via OEM (original equipment manufacturer) for system builders and system integrators, which means you’ll need to buy a complete system if you want this chip. Sadly, you won’t be able to buy the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G on retail via your local retailer or online shops, as AMD is pretty strict on this!

However, I did manage to wrangle my way, and got this chip along with a B550M motherboard. Well it is a semi built system sort of, right? *Wink* *Wink*

According to AMD, the Ryzen PRO series of CPUs provide PRO technologies which includes layers of security features, seamless manageability, and reliable longevity.

This CPU is often referred to as an APU (accelerated processor unit), it’s a marketing term used by AMD to describe a series of CPUs with onboard integrated graphics (GPU) on a single die.

And on the subject of graphics … the 4750G comes with onboard Radeon graphics with 8 GPU cores in total, and it’s based on their latest GCN 5th Gen architecture. It operates on a frequency of 2100MHz with a maximum UMA frame buffer (shared video ram) of up to 2GB.

The Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G is based on the Zen 2 (7nm) Renoir architecture, and is currently AMD’s highest performing APU in their catalogue. It’s also their highest core count for their APU series with 8-cores/16-threads. Some people have said it’s basically a Ryzen 7 3700X with onboard Radeon graphics.

Our sister site has already taken a look at the previous generation – AMD’s Picasso architecture, the Ryzen 5 3400G (4-cores/8-threads) and the Ryzen 3 3200G (4 cores) … now let’s see what so special about the Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G (8-cores/16-threads).

You can visit AMD’s website for more information about the Ryzen Pro … here.

AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G Processor (with Radeon Graphics)

The processor does not come with any box or retail packaging … and only comes in tray form. Our inside guy was kind enough to package it a blister pack and he bundled a standard AMD heatsink/fan along with 2 nice looking stickers. One says AMD Ryzen 7 4000 Series and the other says AMD Radeon Graphics.
