DWG KIA defeated T1 in the 2021 League of Legends World Championship semifinals on 30 October after a back-and-forth five-game series at Worlds 2021. The most-anticipated best-of-five of the event will end with DWG KIA advancing to the grand final for a chance become the second team in LoL esports history to win two back-to-back Summoner’s Cups.
This rematch of the League of Legends Champions Korea 2021 summer finals was about as exciting as fans could hope, even starting from the draft phase. T1 support Ryu “Keria” Min-seok picked the first Zilean support at Worlds, and the 11th total Zilean pick from a major region player this year, then played it again in Game 5. DWG KIA support Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee played two games of Maokai support this series. When he picked it in Game 1, it was the first time ever that Maokai support had been picked at Worlds or the Mid-Season Invitational. DWG KIA made a stand with 1 game behind T1, and got 2 games in a row to destroy T1.
The stage is almost set for DWG KIA in the grand final as they are dominating, where they’ll face Edward Gaming who won the Worlds 2021 semifinal matchup on 31 October. There’s no rival other than T1 for DWG KIA on the way to the champion.
DWG KIA climb as T1 fall
DWG KIA mid laner “ShowMaker” is proving that he’s the first of his name and not the next “Faker”. ShowMaker’s LeBlanc was the most eye-catching in all games against T1 with suppressing T1 Squad almost by himself. After eliminating his rival Faker and T1’s squad of talented young rookies on the way to his second Summoner’s Cup, he’s taken the first major step in doing so.
The 25-year-old veteran will step down as a player to complete his mandatory military service for South Korea after Worlds 2021, but he still has one more series left to play. Let’s see how Faker will come back to his throne.
On the other side of the matchup, T1 will go home after an impressive Worlds 2021 run. The tough loss will deny T1 and Faker a shot at reigniting their legacies with a fourth world championship title.
